Welcome to Marj Cook Yoga
Marj was first introduced to yoga whilst working at a holistic holiday centre in Greece in 1991. Since then she has explored many different styles of yoga including Ashtanga, Scaravelli and Iyengar yoga both in India and in the UK. Her passion for yoga naturally led her towards teaching and she completed a BWY accredited teacher training with The Life Centre in West London in 2007. She has taught in a variety of settings around South Shropshire, London and also in Colombia.
Marj has a committed personal yoga practice which is incorporated into her busy lifestyle. Her yoga journey is ongoing and she attends frequent workshops to develop her skills as well as regular sessions with her teacher
Over time she has developed her own style of Hatha yoga with particular focus on postural alignment, breathwork and restorative practise. Her inspiration is derived from some of the many wonderful teachers she has encountered over the years including: Judith Hanson-Lasater, Donna Farhi, Radha Ireland, Kate Ellis and David Sye. She has a down to earth approach which makes her classes accessible to everyone regardless of age or ability.
Marj has a varied experience working with children and is mother to a six yr old son. In 2009 she trained as a Childrens yoga teacher with Jo Manuel at the Special Yoga Centre, London (2009) which led her to work in a number of local schools, nurseries and Surestart children's centres. In 2010 she completed 'Early Years and family Yoga' teacher training with Uma Dinsmore-Tuli at Yoga Campus (London). Unique to the UK, this comprehensive training promotes the conscious and positive use of yoga to build physical and emotional contact between parents, babies and young children in order to promote joy in family life. To compliment this work she also recently she trained as an 'Infant massage' instructor (Baby & Beyond-Brighton).
